It all started when the founders met in grad school at Stanford University’s ME218 class. ME218 teaches the fundamentals of mechatronics and embedded systems. Upon graduation, while our peers joined big Silicon Valley companies and launched startups, we chose to build a product engineering consulting firm.
We wanted to work on a variety of projects across different industries to develop a deeper and broader understanding of embedded systems and product development. We wanted to shape our working environment to be both results-oriented and fun. And we wanted to be someone our clients could count on.
Fast forward a decade, and these principles ring truer than ever. We are selective about the projects we take on, making sure we are fully engaged and can deliver great results. We invest in our 20+ person team via training and tools and support their work on a wide range of challenging projects. All the while, we are creating an environment where our engineers can do their best work.
Miguel is a partner and co-founder of 219 Design. He takes the lead in day-to-day operations while co-managing our Silicon Valley offices. Miguel also oversees concept prototyping. Under his watch, dozens of functional prototypes have had successful showings at trade shows like the International Consumer Electronics Show (International CES) and internal/OEM evaluations. Miguel holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from Stanford University.
Dave is a partner and co-founder of 219 Design. He takes the lead in developing and implementing the Company’s strategic direction. He also has a strong background in embedded systems and medical device software development. Dave is based in Prague after living in Bogotá and London where his wife was a diplomat with the U.S. Embassy. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from Stanford University.
Larry is a partner and co-founder of 219 Design. He co-manages our Silicon Valley offices. Larry also directly contributes to a wide range of projects based on his deep understanding of the challenges and trends impacting the medical device, consumer, and automotive industries. He studied Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley and holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from Stanford University.
Dan is a partner and co-founder of 219 Design. In addition to managing our San Francisco office, he plays an active role in account management and oversees engineering quality. Dan has over 15 years of experience in medical device software, embedded system design, and the Internet of Things (IoT) deployments. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
Alex has been a managing partner at 219 Design since 2007. He heads up our Raleigh office and the management and execution of complex projects. Alex is a role model for our interdisciplinary approach, combining microcontrollers, firmware, sensors and actuators with the real world to provide our clients with great outcomes. Our resident expert in BLE, capacitive sensing, and USB holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from Stanford University.
