Project Overview
The BMW Technology Office and 219 have collaborated on numerous projects over the last 5 years. We cannot discuss details due to confidentiality. However, we can say that we've even been lucky enough to borrow a 3-Series for testing purposes!
Our Involvement
• Developed custom server, mobile, and
embedded software
• Developed custom mechanical solution and integrated
embedded computer equipment into research vehicles.
Project Overview
Dr. Callaghan needed to prepare his preliminary
ventilator prototype for FDA testing. It required improved usability
and aesthetics, increased functionality, component selection, and
extensive preliminary testing.
Our Involvement
• Built robust prototype for testing and development
• Performed usability study at Stanford Hospital
• Developed modern design with intuitive user interface
• Designed and built looks-like/works-like prototype
Project Overview
Spot Devices turned to 219 to take their first generation in-road warning light to the next level. Because these devices alert motorists to the presence of pedestrians at crosswalks, ensuring brightness was critical. 219 successfully made the RS200 the brightest solar-powered in-road light on the market and raised the bar for wireless communication and durability.
Our Involvement
• Designed to withstand abusive in-road conditions
• Enabled complex behavior with firmware design
• Designed power system to maximize LED performance
Project Overview
Los Gatos Research requires over a half dozen custom electronic circuit boards for their ultra-precise precision gas analyzers. 219 designs custom PCBs to their specifications and handles getting them made.
Our Involvement
• Designed over a dozen custom PCBs
• Developed analog and digital solutions to specification
• Work with vendors in North America and Asia
• Project manuals and test reports accompany PCBs
Project Overview
The ShadowBox records every aspect of athletes' performances. It uses a suite of sensors and some complex software to make this happen. Kent approached 219 to turn their proof-of-concept into a manufacturable product. We accomplished that in 9 months.
Our Involvement
• Designed a robust, waterproof housing
• Designed and tested complex circuitry
• Developed firmware and PC application
• Located manufacturing partners in the US and Asia
Project Overview
Harbor Wing wanted some experienced eyes to review the design of a custom enclosure. Since it would be mounted on the outside of their revolutionary new boat and time was tight, the housing not only had to be seaworthy, it had to "work right out of the box."
Our Involvement
• Reviewed & modified complex mechanical assembly
• Created drawings to communicate critical dimensions
• Managed getting parts machined and finished
Project Overview
Validity wanted to demonstrate the operation of their fingerprint sensors in a variety of consumer electronics. A computer monitor and numerous laptops needed to be carefully modified to include Validity's technology.
Our Involvement
• Modified monitors and pre-production laptops
to accommodate sensors
• Designed custom bezels to hold sensors
Project Overview
Synaptics often creates concept prototypes to showcase their capacitive technology. 219 is proud to have performed over twenty projects with Synaptics. Together we have adapted off-the-shelf cameras, laptops, cell phones, and keyboards to use their capacitive sensors.
Our Involvement
• Designed PCBs with capacitive buttons, scroll strips,
and trackpads
• Wrote software to interface with Synaptics ICs
• Designed custom mechanicals for electronics
Project Overview
Spot Devices needed a sleek detection system capable of activating its pedestrian safety systems and withstanding the abuse of outdoor urban environments. 219 designed a bollard with a durable housing and adaptable mounting system for internal lights, speakers and electronics.
Our Involvement
• Designed a custom aluminum extrusion and durable
thermoformed lid
• Included slots in the extrusion for mounting
• Assured proper function throughout wide operating
temperature range
